A 1.22 km road and the 145 m Togga Garowe bridge on prestressed beams: the first prestressed-beam bridge built in Somalia since 1990, with river training, gabions and riprap.
The Togga Garowe is the seasonal riverbed that divides Garowe. In the rainy season it floods and cuts the city in two. The second World Bank roads package, supervised by UNOPS, answered that with a 145 m bridge and the 1.22 km Gambol Road that leads to it.
The bridge deck rests on prestressed concrete beams, making it the first prestressed-beam bridge built in Somalia since 1990. River-training works, gabions and riprap protect the banks and piers from erosion, and the road was completed with drainage, kerbs, sidewalks, signage, landscaping and bus shelters. The contract value was USD 6.67 million.
This project was delivered by TTN Construction, SOTEC's partner. It is shown to illustrate the joint capability available to clients.
